The Excellent Adventure - Delicious floor muesli

18-Dec-2010 / 19-Dec-2010

It seems our night tent making skills are better than I thought! We only needed some small fly adjustments in the morning but otherwise everything was perfect.

On Saturday some friends from Sydney arrived with the rest of our camping gear and we were able to extend the already ridiculously large Palace with our Category 5 Escape Gazebo. I’m not exactly sure what qualifies it as an escape gazebo but maybe in case of an emergency we’ll find that we can each hold on to a leg and float off to safety.

Surfing… well, sort of…

I use the term “surfing” loosely as for Gabe and I this was a first time and we spent most of it falling off our boards, while attempting to simply lie on them, and screaming like little girls. Still, I had loads of fun catching absolutely no waves until I received a surfboard to the head and retired injured. You win this time nature…

Now you can’t have an excellent adventure without taking a few risks. So when Cam managed to drop our untouched box of muesli on the floor we seized the opportunity (after shedding a few tears) and had an impromptu breakfast. Mmm gritty goodness!

Volleyball, robot style!

We also managed to get in some volleyball after lunch. There were some professional looking dives…

and then there were the more unconventional moves (I call this one the robot)

I’m on a boat!

On Sunday we took the boat out to a local lake. It was my first attempt at driving a boat since getting my license so I made sure to put my “boat driving face” on.

Meanwhile, Cam was gaining some awesome air on the wakeboard…

and Gabe was hanging on for his life to the tube

The lake was beautifully warm and really calm too, so we plan on stopping by on our way out of the area on Thursday morning. By then hopefully I’ll have worked out my “wakeboarding face” and will represent in some pictures too.

Running

I went on a couple of trail runs around the area over the weekend, there’s really quite a lot of beautiful tracks to discover around here. My favourite one so far is about 4 kilometres long. It starts here:

You run on beautiful soft, wide trails like this for most of the way…

and then you end up here as your turnaround point.

Midpoint of run

It’s definitely up there as one of the most beautiful routes I’ve run on, I’m looking forward to exploring more of the fire trails around the area soon!

Tomorrow starts our first day of working on the Excellent Adventure and while this may sound a bit weird we’re all really looking forward to it. For now however, it’s time to grab a couple of bottles of wine and head to the beach for the sunset. I’ll leave with you with a photo of me writing up the weekend’s activities, cajun style:
