On Wednesday, we decided to try working from a local cafĂ© down at Smiths Lake as Treachery Camp’s Lodge was being prepared for new guests. Smiths Lake is about a half hour drive from the camp and has some great protected waters which make it an ideal wakeboarding location.

The great people at Frothy Coffee, located on the water’s edge of Smiths Lake, kindly allowed us to run riot with our giant extension chords and power boards giving us several hours of uninterrupted work flow. Eventually however, even buying a continuous stream of coffee was unable to keep Frothy Coffee’s doors open and we relocated to a nearby park bench.

where I discovered a new workplace hazard, beetle attack!

We had some time in the evening to check out the local lighthouse which boasted some spectacular views:

And some slightly bizarre signs:

I managed to check out another nearby trail with Gabe in the evening. This one was fairly flat, shady and had a nice turnaround point at the next beach to the south:

Here’s Gabe looking pro:

And the general feel of the track:

On Thursday the time had finally come to ship out of Seal Rocks and head to Port Macquarie for Christmas. We amazed ourselves by actually fitting everything back into the cases they came in:

And then even more surprisingly, getting it all to fit back into the car:

We also managed to get in some wakeboarding at Smiths Lake on the way out. This included me actually getting up successfully for the first time on a wakeboard…

followed by lots of these moments:

Next time, I’ll hopefully be able to master the legendary “staying upright” trick. It’s good to have goals… With that, we’re off to crash in on Cam’s family Christmas including a first encounter with something that I have only recently realised is not a hoax… a Turduken!
